When he left high school in 1989 and joined the Air Force, Brad Antonson thought that other than family visits, that was the last he would see of Beresford, South Dakota. His plans were to make a career in the military. “Life does always take you in the direction you thought it would,” says Brad. Now, over twenty years later, he can’t imagine any other place he’d rather live and work then Beresford.
Since 1997, Brad has been a part of the Jensen Agency family of agents, making sure the people of the area are adequately protected with insurance and that their real estate needs are provided for.
Whether it’s insurance for homeowners, auto, health, life, casualty and property, commercial, or ag needs, Brad handles it all. But, like the rest of the Jensen Agency agents, Brad has developed his own area of specialization – health insurance for groups and individuals.
Says Brad, “The biggest thing is the affordability of health insurance. On the individual side, the higher deductibles, higher co-insurance and out-of-pocket maximums have increased just to keep people insured. On the group health side of things we've seen more of a focus and a push for ‘well care’. If people can catch things earlier that's going to help defray the costs.”
Brad knows a knowledgeable agent can be very valuable. He encourages people not to be afraid to ask questions. Says Brad, “I would much rather take the time to make sure a customer fully understands what they’re getting and what the ramifications of their decisions are. Probably the scariest thing out there is to be under-insured, or worse yet, uninsured. I realize there are people that just can’t swing it, but we can usually find a way to still keep them insured. We may have to increase deductibles or out of pockets. Or, perhaps the best affordable alternative is to have more of a catastrophic plan, so if you end up with a $250,000 medical bill that $5,000.00 deductible doesn’t seem so big.”
In addition to his insurance duties, Brad handles much of the Jensen Agency’s real estate activities. He’s even earned his GRI (Graduate of Real Estate Institute) designation. The GRI requires at least 100 hours of specialized real estate classroom training.
Brad and his wife, Sarah, have 3 children – Nicholas, Madeline, and Jack. Says Brad, “It’s great to live in a community where you can live and work amongst your friends and family.” When Brad isn’t doing insurance or real estate business, he likes to spend time hunting, fishing, golfing, and boating.
